You may have read it at Time, or The Telegraph UK or even this site that used without permission an image from the Lowenhart website that Lowchen are amongst the most expensive dog breeds in the world!

Well I hate to burst the bubble, but it is fiction.  Baseless untruth.  Your average Lowchen puppy goes for less than a quarter of the oft quoted price. Most breeders are scratching there collective heads figuring out who could possibly be getting $4000 - $7000 for a Lowchen puppy.  Quite a few are thinking who ever researched the original report was being conned.

At one time in history, the Lowchen was the rarest and most expensive breed in the world.  But that was in 1969.  23 years have passed and the Lowchen is not a rare breed.  A more reliable source of just how many Lowchen are born each year is LowchenWorld.

In the UK, USA, Germany over 100 Lowchen are born in each country each and every year.  This makes them a relatively uncommon breed but not especially rare.

So, as we have told media outlets who contact us about a “story” on this rare expensive breed, there is no “story”.  Lowchen are just an uncommon pure breed dog, they are not expensive or rare.
